They might not be as newsworthy as Future, but Tame Impala is another musical act that you won’t want to miss. That’s not say they have but anything out since their 2015 landmark album Currents, but that doesn’t mean that their tunes aren’t any less popping.
The band started as a recording project for Australian Kevin Parker who remains the main brain behind the albums from instrumentation to production. They first came to the forefront with their 2010 album Innerspeaker that blended psychedelic, effects-drowned guitars and Parker’s John Lennon-esque voice. Since, their sound has remained steeped in retro-psychedelia but has shifted from guitar-centric to a dominant synth presence. Their current most popular song on Spotify, “The Less I Know The Better” actually is driven by bass, showing that Tame Impala is not just a one trick pony.
It’s always a fun time when ever one of their tunes pops up on my Pandora playlist, so I hope you all feel the same way.
